Title: Edgecentric Story-making

Artist: Laura Wild

Materials: Found objects and empty notebooks

Artist Statement

This work is conceived by the artist and created collaboratively; firstly by the people of Liverpool more than a century ago who dumped their rubbish in the Williamson Tunnels, next by volunteer diggers currently engaged in their reclamation and finally by visitors to the exhibition. The stories, inspired by objects found during the reclamation process, will emerge gradually as visitors engage in a game of 'lucky dip' followed by reading and adding to the relevant story.

An Invitation to participants

On my first tour of Joseph Williamson's Tunnels I was inspired by possibilities for the imagination in an environment where much of what took place here is not entirely known or understood. This leaves room for supposition and I invite you to allow your imagination to roam by participating in story making.

  • Please put on a pair of gloves from the bucket.
  • Reach into the covered bucket and take out an object.
  • Find the relevant book by the picture on its cover.
  • Read the story so far.
  • Sit at the table and write the next part of the story.
  • Please return the object and gloves to the appropriate buckets.
